| Hello Yong Zhou,
|
| thank you for your quick answer. As I was abroad this week, I could not follow your advices before today.
|
| First of all: I followed all steps through your answer and finally could
| recover my JTAGICE mkII: Everthing is fine now. :-)
|
| To give as much feedback as possble, I just tell in detail what happened,
| maybe this can help in similar cases:

|
| My laptop is a Lenovo Thinkpad T61p, which should comply to the USB-standards. As I have no USB-cable available which I could cut for the purpose of measuring the current, I did the following:
|
| - I Installed a fresh Windows XP on a Dell inspiron 8200, to test with a
| serial connection (my current Lenovo does not have a serial interface).
|
| - I installed the complete AVR-Studio software V4.18, build 716 and the SP3 package.
|
| - I connected the JTAGICE-MK-II with the serial cable which was supplied with my JTAGICE.
|
| - I powered the JTAGICE with a power-supply from my lab. Voltage was set to 13.0 Volts. Ground was connected to the center-wire of the power-plug which was supplied with my JTAGICE.
|
| - I powered on the JTAGICE. current reading was about 150 mA.
|
| - the LEDs showed up as described in my last email: LED #2 was red, LED #3 was yellow. No other lights on.
|
| - I opened the connect dialog from AVR-studio and tried 'connect' with 'AUTO' setting, baudrate set to 115000.
|
| - I could see the JTAGICE switching off the yellow LED for 1-2 seconds. After that, the LED went back to 'on' state, yellow color.
|
| - the AVR Studio popped up again, stating "Connect failed - Select AVR
| Programmer"
|
| - I repeated this procedure with all baud settings down to 19200
|
| - during all probes, the current did never exceed 140 mA (though the metering of the power supply does not exactly happen in real-time)

| > 2. Did the JTAGICE mkII USB driver works well? Check it in Windows PC
| > "Device Manager", if it's recognized as "JTAGICE mkII".
|
| Yes. On the fresh installed Dell Laptop, I tried USB as well (it has USB 1.1). After switching on the JTAGICE, Windows issued an acoustic signal to indicate that a new USB device was detected.
|
| In Windows devicemanager, I could see the 'JUNGO' drivers 'JTAGICE-mkII' and 'WinDriver' '

|
| The only error message to see was the one described above. A screenshot is
| attached.
|
| > 4. Try to update the firmware of JTAGICE mkII by the instructions in
| > "JTAGICE mkII User Guide --> Firmware Upgrade".
|
| Yes, I did this before on my Lenovo, it didn't work. But after your mail, I tried this with the Dell via the serial interface and with the external power supply, and then it worked.
|
| I thank you very much for your fast and competent answer. Though they were no real new things to consider, it finally led me to a new installation and the check with the serial interface.
|
| Thank you again,
|
| good bye and all the best!
