This is only applicable for the 80x86 machines (e.g., 80286, 80386, etc.). THE "MAIN MENU" Once the PEEL Development Kit/Development System software is booted-up, the first screen to appear (after the initialization and sign-on messages) will be the "Main Menu". This main menu is divided into three sections: More on THE "MAIN MENU" (Next Page) THE "MAIN MENU" (Continue) DEVICE: controls operations such as Program, Load, Verify, Test, and other Auxiliary commands. These commands pertain to the device programmer module and are only available in the PEEL Development System. JEDEC FILE: controls operations such as Read from disk, Write to disk, COM transmit/receive, Display/print, Translate and Check sum. UTILITIES: includes Help, Setup, File, Edit, VT Emulator, DOS Command, and Quit to DOS. COMMAND SELECTION To select a command from the main menu, simply press the capital letter that corresponds to its adjacent command word. Some commands will have secondary command menus which must be followed to complete the original command. More (Next Page) EXITING AND RE-ENTERING THE SOFTWARE Exiting the PEEL Development Kit/Development System software is done from the main menu by pressing "Q" for "Quit to DOS". Doing this will cause a prompt to appear asking you to confirm your wish to quit. If confirmed, the software will exit and the DOS prompt will appear. To re-enter the software from DOS, simply type "PEEL" followed by the ENTER key. Pressing the ENTER key twice will allow you to bypass the boot-up messages. If you move the software to another computer, you must re-initialize the software again. COMMAND DESCRIPTIONS (Next Page) *LOAD HELP L = Load Enters Load mode. L = Load device - Loads the contents of the currently selected PLD (i.e., PEEL, PAL, FPLA, EEPLD or EPLD) into memory. Checksum is calculated and updated. More (Next Page) Note: A Test Vector failure is indicated by a "!", "?", or "#". A "!" indicates that a LOW is sensed on the pin. A HIGH test vector is expected. A "?" indicates that a HIGH is sensed on the pin. A LOW test vector is expected. A "#" indicates that the pin is not at HIGH IMPEDANCE. C = Capture - Senses or "captures" the output levels resulting from your specified input test vectors. Output test vectors with an X (don't care) will be captured. *U AUXILIARY HELP U = aUxiliary Selects the menu of secondary functions/ commands that are auxiliary to selected device. File For a description of the options, Selection please QUIT to return to the main Options screen menu and press "H" (for Help). Then, press "O" (for Options). To read a file from disk: (1) Use the right, left, up and down arrow keys to select a file within the list. The current file selected is highlighted. (2) Press the ENTER key to execute the selection. More (Next Page) After reading in the JEDEC file, the PEEL software prompts you to select the PLD type specific to the JEDEC file. Example: The file selected is R8CNTR.JED (written for PAL16R8). The PLD type to be selected should be PAL16R8 (also choose the manufacturer to be used). If a mistake was made in selecting the PLD type, you can read the JEDEC file again, or do the following: 1) press "L" for Load at the main screen menu. 2) press the SPACEBAR key. 3) select the correct PLD type (device type, manufacturer, etc.). 4) press "Q" for Quit when the software prompts you to load a device. Reminder: If you press "L" instead of "Q", the software will start the loading command. This will change the data in the data buffer. *WRITE HELP W = Write to disk Allows a JEDEC file to be written from memory to disk. Filename and checksum are updated. Filename Format (Next Page) The format for the filename is: filename.JED where filename can be a maximum of 8 characters. The file extension .JED is necessary to differentiate from the translated file which uses the .JEX extension. *COM HELP C = COM transmit/ Allows a JEDEC file to be transmitted or receive received to or from the COM port. C = Com port - toggles COM port between COM1 and COM2. B = Baudrate - selects baudrates ranging from 110 to 9600. D = Data bits - toggles data bits between 7 and 8. S = Stop bits - toggles stop bits between 1 and 2. P = Parity - selects EVEN, ODD or NONE. T = Timeout - selects timeout (in seconds) for transmission or reception. X = Transmit - sends the JEDEC file from the RAM memory to the COM port. You must ensure that the device type and family are specified correctly. R = Receive - receives the JEDEC file from the COM port to the RAM memory. After successful reception, you are prompted for the device type and family. *DISPLAY HELP D = Display/print Allows displaying or printing of the contents in the memory. *XLATE HELP X = Translate Enters Translate mode which allows translation of a JEDEC file from memory or disk. The translated file is automatically saved to disk with the same filename but a .JEX extension. D = translate Device loaded in memory - Translates the contents of the memory to the PEEL JEDEC format. A device must be loaded, or a JEDEC file read in prior to entering the translate mode. F = translate File in disk - Translates a JEDEC file from disk to the PEEL JEDEC format. A JEDEC file READ is not necessary prior to entering the translate mode. You will will be able to select a file from a file selection menu in this mode.
