Zur Kompatibilität:
• Generell gilt: "The XBee and XBee-PRO 802.15.4 (formerly series 1)
modules provide point-to-point 802.15.4 communications, and the XBee and
XBee-PRO ZB (formerly series 2 or 2.5) modules provide ZigBee-compliant
mesh. If the application strictly needs to communicate in a
point-to-point or a point-to-multipoint fashion, 802.15.4 will be able
handle all the communications between your devices and will be simpler
to implement than trying to use a module with ZigBee firmware to
accomplish the same goal. ZigBee is necessary if you need to use
repeating or mesh networking functionality in your system."

point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or a peer-to-peer configuration.
While standard 802.15.4 always requires a coordinator, the Digi radios
are set up so that a coordinator is not required."
• There are two protocols for mesh networking: DigiMesh for Series 1;
ZigBee for Se-ries 2. DigiMesh is fully functional mesh networking,
except it is not compatible with the industry-standard ZigBee. This
means most people should be happy with Series 1 even if they are using
them for mesh networking.
Upgrades:
XBee Series 2.5 (or series 2) modules have been discontinued, though
existing Series 2.5 modules can be converted to full standard ZB
capabilities - it's only a firmware change, not hardware (as stated in
this digi page). Xbee Series 2.5 is just another name for the former
Series 2, so the upgrade procedure is exactly the same.
The Series 1 (802.15.4) modules remain unchanged
Compatibility Note:
XBee and XBee-PRO DigiMesh 2.4 Modules are compatible with other devices
that use XBee "DigiMesh 2.4" technology. These include ConnectPort X
gateways, XBee and XBee-PRO Adapters, and other products when designated
with the "DigiMesh 2.4" product name. Devices that do not have the
"DigiMesh 2.4" product name, including Digi's line of ZB, DigiMesh 900,
and 802.15.4 XBee products are not compatible with XBee and XBee-PRO
DigiMesh 2.4 Modules.
Compatibility Note:
